ARMY WARNS BORNO PEOPLE AGAINST FALSE ALARM, RELOCATIONS TO IDP CAMPS

The Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj-Gen Benson Akinroluyo has said that some people are instigate residents of Bama, Dikwa and Monguno communities in Borno to abandon their communities and relocate to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps. The over 11,500 allegedly instigated residents, were returned by Nigerian Army and Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) in 2017 and early this year. According to him, some people are trying to create panic in some parts of the state, particularly North and Central Senatorial Districts of the state. Theatre Command Spokesman, Col. Onyema Nwachukwu in a statement released Sunday in Maiduguri said: “It has been observed that some unscrupulous individuals with likely sinister motives within and outside the state, are trying to create panic and unnecessary humanitarian problems for undisclosed reasons. According to him, “It has also come to our attention that these people are plotting to instigate the inhabitants of Bama, Dikwa and Monguno communities to abandon their communities and relocate to IDP camps for undisclosed reasons. “There is no basis for the people of Bama, Dikwa and Monguno to relocate from their respective communities.” He assured that troops in conjunction with the state government are working towards relocating residents of Baga to safer locations, as military operation is ongoing in the Lake Chad region. He urged the residents of affected towns and the general public to dismiss such calls of instigation and remain calm. He said the Theatre Command and other security agencies will shed more light on relocations of returnees to camps at Security Council meeting with Governor Kashim Shettima.
