The Orji Kalu Foundation in collaboration with Presidential Committee on the Northeast Initiative (PCNI) has rendered 1,000 displaced persons in Borno state with medical services at Bakassi camp. Flagging off the medical outreach on Thursday in Maiduguri, the Executive Secretary of the Foundation, Jemimah Kalu said that over 1, 000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) with “virginal infection and diabetes” were targeted for the medical outreach. She said that the medical outreach in partnership with PCNI was to secure a brighter future for the IDPs in camps and host communities. Her words: “The recent Foundation’s survey and reports on displaced persons’ medical requirements, indicated that this camp has the highest number of IDPs suffering from virginal infections and diabetes,” adding that most of the patients are women and the elderly. Speaking on rendered services, Kalu said: “After targeting the affected displaced persons in camps, antimicrobial peptide and wound gel diabetes were prescribed for women and the elderly. According to her, the women and elderly had been suffering from virginal infections and chronic wounds, while in IDP camps. She said the Foundation is working with health personnel to improve the diabetic ulcers and other related conditions, by administering antimicrobial peptide wound gels. “Our target is to provide healthcare to 20,000 women and 10,000 persons with chronic ulcers among displaced persons in insurgency affected states of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe.”
