UN CONDEMNS KILLING OF AID WORKER IN BORNO

Date:

The Secretary General of United Nations, Antonio Guterres has condemned the killing of an aid worker, Hauwa Liman from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on Monday in Borno state. He was also appalled with the execution of Hauwa, after she was held hostage since March 2018 by Boko Haram insurgents. Guterres on Tuesday in a statement of his Spokesman, Stephane Dujarric said: “I express my deepest condolences of Ms. Liman and solidarity with the President and staff of ICRC.” He said those responsible for the killing must be brought to justice. According to him, all parties to the conflict must protect aid workers who provide life-saving humanitarian assistance to the millions of people in need in Northeast. The Secretary General also expressed his deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Ms. Liman, adding that he is in solidarity with the President and staff of the ICRC. “I’m concern for the safety and well-being of the remaining hostages,” he said, calling for their immediate release. He said the aid workers had been providing life-saving humanitarian assistance to millions of people in need in north-east Nigeria.
