CHELSEA DEFENDER HANDED THREE MATCH BAN

Date:

Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso has been handed a three-match ban for a tackle on Southampton’s Shane Long last weekend that was not spotted.

The Spaniard made a tackle on Long just before halftime in the game which had everyone questioning how he had not been sent off.

The player went in high and with his studs up, making contact with Long’s leg and sending him to the floor in pain.

While many questioned whether how the referee could not have seen the incident during the game, this has now confirmed that he did not spot it.

That is because should the official see the incident, it is not a bannable offence and the Football Association’s statement confirms that no official saw the incident.

The statement released on Thursday also confirmed that Alonso denied the charge and appealed that the ban was excessive but his appeal was rejected in a hearing on Wednesday.

Now, the player will miss the FA Cup semi-final against Southampton and also two Premier League games against Burnley and Swansea.
