POLICE, NSCDC TO PROTECT SCHOOLS IN THE NORTHEAST

The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Operations, Habila Joshak has said that adequate security is provided to all schools in the Northeast protect pupils, students and teachers lives in insurgency affected states in the region; The protection of the schools and students, followed the directives of the President for the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and Commandant General Of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) to relocate to the region and ensure adequate security of schools. Joshak disclosed this on Monday, while addressing students of Government Girls Secondary School Yerwa, Maiduguri. He said that adequate security is to be provided to eight schools in Borno state. According to him, the IGP assured staff, students and parents of schools in the Northeast; that adequate security be provided to ensure what happened in Chibok and Dapchi does not repeat it. His words: “We are here with the Commandant General of NSCDC, the deployment of our men and also to ensure synergy between the Police and the NSCDC in our quest to guarantee the safety and wellbeing of the schools. This is to restore civil authority in the Northeast states of Borno, Adamawa, Yobe, Gombe, Taraba and Bauchi.” He said despite inadequate manpower, the police are going to give priority to the Presidential directive by deploying their men to the schools to ensure all schools affected by insurgency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa are protected. He said the security measures, were not jeopardized the education of future leaders. According to him, phone numbers will be provided to the principals, staff, students and well-meaning Nigerians for prompt response in time of distress. He explained that very soon they are going to establish Nigeria Police Broadcasting Service (NPBS) to ensure effective policing. “This is to ensure that your right is not violated. Any officer found wanting; will be severely dealt with, as we have done with those found violating the right of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in camps and host communities.” He said the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Abdullahi Gana is also going to visit schools across the Northeast region. The visit, according to him, was to ensure deployment and synergy with other sister security agencies in the Northeast.
