The Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj-Gen Rogers Nicholas has at last confirmed the Gambouru bomb blast in Borno state that killed over a dozen people at mosque in early hours of Wednesday.
He said five worshipers were killed in the suicide mosque blast, instead of over a dozen residents reported by National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and Civilian JTF in Maiduguri and Gambouru town in a telephone interview yesterday (Wednesday).
“Our ground troops have already neutralized a suicide bomber at Rann, the council headquarters of Kala/Balge in Borno state.
“Yes, but only five killed and another suicide bomber neutralized in Rann,” said Nicholas yesterday in Maiduguri. Yakubu Isa, a resident of Gambouru, however told The Guardian that 15 persons were killed and six others sustained various degrees of
injuries in the mosque attack.
He said that the troops had also neutralized a suicide bomber at Rann, headquarters of Kala/Balge Local Government Area.
His words: “The suicide bomber hailed from Gambouru town, he disowned his parents and joined the insurgents in the bush.
“He entered the mosque blew up himself into pieces and killed 15 persons including his biological father.”
He said the wounded residents were referred to the clinic at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in the area for treatment and referrals to University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH).
