YOBE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL OKAYS N777.1M TO EQUIP EIGHT HOSPITALS, SCHOOLS

The Yobe State Executive Council (SEC) has yesterday approved the immediate release of N777.1 million for the equipping of three completed General Hospitals and five secondary schools to improve
healthcare delivery services and education standards across the state.
The hospitals are located at Potiskum, Geidam and Gashua, 185 kilometres north of Damaturu, the state capital.
The commissioner of information, Alhaji Mala Musti disclosed this on Thursday, while briefing journalists on the outcome of council meeting at Government House, Damaturu.
He said that N679.38 million is for the procurement and installations of state of the art medical equipment for the completed hospitals in three senatorial districts of the state.
He said the hospitals were recently rehabilitated and upgraded to improve the quality of healthcare delivery services to the people living in both urban and rural centres.
His words: “The State Government had, in June 2016, expended over N1.8 billion for the complete rehabilitation and expansion of three hospitals.
“Today (Thursday), the council approved N679.38 million for the supply, installation and user training of assorted medical equipment to these hospitals.”

He added that N97, 703, 650.00 was also approved for the purchase of science laboratory equipment, tools and reagents, amongst others, for five secondary schools that were rehabilitated and expanded by
government to improve teaching and learning in schools.

He listed the schools to include; Government Girls Secondary School, Nguru, and Government Secondary Schools at Fika, Yunusari, Nangere and Gwio-Kura.
“The procured laboratory equipment is intended to encourage the study of science subjects such as mathematics, Biology, Physics and Chemistry,” said Musti.
Governor Ibrahim Gaidam also said that government will continue to sponsor more students to study in higher institutions of learning within and outside the country.
The governor made the pledge when he received an award of excellence conferred on him by National Union of Yobe State Students (NUYOSS) for contributions to the funding and development of education in the state.
“This administration will continue to be committed towards improving the sector through regular payment of scholarship allowances among other incentives to teachers in the state,” said Gaidam.
