The Yobe state chapter of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ); is to
honor Governor Ibrahim Gaidam for “establishing and equipping”
primary, secondary and tertiary institutions for sustained healthcare
delivery services across the state.
The healthcare delivery services are also to be accessible and
affordable to people living and within and outside the state.
This was disclosed on Monday, by NUJ state chairman, Malam Yusuf Isa, while briefing journalists on the merits of health delivery services
award.
He said the establishment and equipping of healthcare delivery
institutions in the state; has also met World Health Organisation
(WHO) standards from primary to tertiary health sectors.
His words: “The establishment of ultra-modern teaching hospital; has
provided a state of the art equipment to reduce medical tourism among patients that require advanced medical treatments abroad for various ailments and surgeries.
“The hospital is already equipped with modern machines at the dialysis centre, RMI machine and radiology equipment.
“Patients that require complexed treatments, like dialysis or the
replacements of hips, no longer to travel to other Teaching Hospitals
in the country or abroad.”
Isa said that the engagement of consultants and other competent health personnel in health institutions by the governor made healthcare delivery services accessible and affordable to all.
He said the state government has established 428 functional primary
healthcare institutions with 50 others providing free medical services
to pregnant women, children below the age of five and victims of roads accidents.
On other supporting health institutions, Isa said: “The state
government also established a medical college at the State’s
University; while seven General Hospitals in Damaturu, Potiskum,
Geidam, Gashua, Buni/Yadi Kanamma and Damagum, are being expanded to accommodate more patients and health personnel.”
While defending the honour, he said: “The award is in recognition of
the governor’s unprecedented development in the healthcare delivery
sector and encourage good governance, transparency and accountability to the people.
“The testimonies of our national officers, who recently visited the
state for on the spot assessement, have also justified the honour for
good performance in the health sector,” he said.
