New Music: Echoxap Delivers Yummy

The fourth of five children raised by an Edo mother, Lucky Bamidele Dasufoli, better known by his stage name “Echoxap” is a Nigerian singer/songwriter whose 2020 self titled single “Bamidele” launched his career to astronomical heights.

Despite his growing influence and industry connects, Echoxap is a front member of Musical Artists Records Limited, and in this interview, reveals what makes him tick as an entertainer.

GPP: Could you please introduce yourself
Echoxap: My name is Lucky Dosufoli, but I go by the stage name Echoxap.

GPP: Can you share some details about your personal background?
Echoxap: I come from Lagos, raised by a beautiful mother from Edo State. I’m the fourth child out of five siblings. I attended Methodist Primary School in Igbogila, Ipaja, and Abesan Comprehensive College in Abesan, Gowon, for my secondary education.

GPP: How did you get started in music, and what prompted you to pursue it professionally?
Echoxap: I started dabbling in music around 2006-2008, mainly along friends in Festac. Initially, I was more of a behind-the-scenes supporter, sponsoring and accompanying friends to shows. However, I eventually felt compelled to step into the limelight and record my first single, “Bamidele,” an Afrobeat track, in 2020.

GPP: How many songs have you released, and have you collaborated with other artists?
Echoxap: I’ve released over 45 songs so far, with collaborations ranging from 6 to 7.

GPP: Have you collaborated with any female artists, and if so, how was the experience?
Echoxap: Yes, collaborating with a female artist was a refreshing experience. It added a new dynamic to my music, and the project turned out well, inspiring me to embrace my identity as Echoxap.

GPP: Who are some artists you aspire to work with in the future?
Echoxap: I would love to collaborate with icons like Wizkid, Burna Boy, Olamide, Davido, Simi, Rema, Neyo, among others.

GPP: How would you describe your current status in the music industry?
Echoxap: I see myself as a fast-rising superstar, steadily making waves and gaining recognition.

GPP: Where do you draw your inspiration from when creating music?
Echoxap: My music is largely inspired by my daily life experiences and observations of the world around me.

Echoxap: Wizkid is a major role model for me. His journey and impact on the music industry are incredibly inspiring.

Echoxap: One of the most fulfilling moments for me was sharing the stage with other great artists at the Mainland Concert.

GPP: What has been your saddest moment in your music career so far?
Echoxap: While I haven’t experienced any specific sad moments, the constant struggle to raise capital for music projects as an independent artist can be challenging.

GPP: Have you ever faced any embarrassing moments during your performances or career?
Echoxap: One embarrassing moment that stands out was when the mic malfunctioned during a performance. It turned out to be a technical issue, but it was a lesson learned.

GPP: How do you define success in your music career?
Echoxap: Success, to me, is about continuous improvement and consistency in my craft.

GPP: Has pursuing music been rewarding for you, and if so, how?
Echoxap: Yes, pursuing music has been rewarding both creatively and spiritually. It’s a fulfillment of my passion and purpose.

Echoxap: My plans include organizing concerts, releasing albums, and expanding my reach as an artist.

GPP: Were your family supportive of your decision to pursue a career in music?
Echoxap: Yes, my family has been incredibly supportive of my musical journey, and I’m grateful for their encouragement.

GPP: What are your thoughts on the Nigerian music industry and its current state?
Echoxap: I believe Nigerian artists should collaborate more to create bigger and better projects, seizing opportunities to elevate the industry.

GPP: If you weren’t pursuing music, what do you think you’d be doing instead?
Echoxap: Without music, I’d likely be fully immersed in business ventures, leveraging my entrepreneurial spirit.

GPP: Finally, how would you describe yourself and your personality in one sentence?
Echoxap: Excellence is the hallmark of my personality as I strive for greatness in all endeavors.
