Former Aviation Minister Osita Chidoka has recounted his final interaction with the late CEO of Access Holdings, Herbert Wigwe.
Chidoka shared his reflections on his time with Wigwe in a post on his official X handle last Sunday.
The ex-minister mentioned that he had expressed a desire to accompany Wigwe on a trip to the USA, which Wigwe humorously declined.
It’s worth noting that Wigwe, who co-founded Access Bank and established Wigwe University with his wife, Chizoba, along with their son and lawyer, Abimbola Ogunbanjo, tragically perished in a helicopter crash on Friday.
Reports indicate that the helicopter was en route to Las Vegas when it crashed near the border between Nevada and California on Friday evening, claiming the lives of all passengers.
Reflecting on his final conversation with the business tycoon, Chidoka, a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), revealed that he had scheduled a meeting with Wigwe on the preceding Thursday.
“We had an appointment for last Thursday. ‘Osita, I will fly into Abuja with the VC on Thursday; after our meeting, I will leave for the US,’ I said. ‘Herbert, wetin they pursue you, you travel a lot these days, biko take me along.’ He laughed and said, ‘Osita, you can’t keep up with my pace. Just enjoy your peace.
“We laughed and said goodbyes. It was the last goodbye. He couldn’t make it on Thursday. “Since I left public office, he has been a strong supporter and friend. His wife Chizoba was at my wedding 22 years ago. “His son looked up to me as his parents literally handed him over to me for mentorship.
“I am alone in the dark, wondering, is that it? Should we remain fearless? Somebody should tell me something.”
