After about 151 days in detention, a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja has granted bail to former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Godwin Emefiele.

Emefiele has reportedly perfected the liberal terms of his bail, and he is expected to appear in court on November 15 for hearing of the substantive suit against him.

A member of Emefiele’s Legal Team, Mr Matthew Bukkar, told journalists that it was a welcomed decelopment and victory for rule of law.

“We thank God for what happened in Court today. What happened was victory for the rule of law

“The terms of the bail have been perfected, and he is free to go home,” Barrister Matthew Bukkar said.

The hearing in the substantive suit against Emefiele would begin on November 15.

He said the responsibility of the legal team was to ensure that Emefiele appeared in the court on November 15.

It would be recalled that Emefiele had been challenging his prolonged detention which constituted a breach of his fundamental human right.
