Court Removes Ghandi As Soun Of Ogbomoso, Orders Fresh Selection Process

The Oyo State High Court sitting in Ogbomoso, on Wednesday, upturned the appointment of the new Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye.

The Oyo State Government announced Pastor Ghandi Olaoye as the new Soun and made him king on 8th September, 2023.

Recall that  one of the contestants, Kabir Laoye who was sued for taking Soun’s position, had appealed that Ghandi Olaoye was not eligible to take Soun’s position.

The court ordered at that time that the Oyo State government must not appoint anyone to the position, until judgement is delivered on the matter but Oyo State government appointed Pastor Ghandi Laoye as the new Soun of Ogbomoso.

Prince Olaoye who sued to challenge Ghandi’s appointment explained that there was a formal flaw in the process by which he was appointed.

He is urging the Supreme Court not to accept the appointment of this new king, and ordered the kingmakers to start the process of appointing another Soun.

While delivering his judgment, Judge Adedokun who was hearing the case announced that the appointment of Oba Laoye was illegal.

He also ordered the judges to start the right process to elect a new Soun

Earlier, Judge Adedokun dismissed three petitions brought before him by one of the accusers, Prince Adeyemi Taofiq Akorede Laoye.

The petitions are also challenging the appointment of the new Soun.
