The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) has killed three soldiers while repelling an ambush in the Abadam axis, Borno state.

 

The May 14, 2023 attack, also wounded 10 other troops, while advancing towards the ISWAP camp in Tunbum Reza.

A Counter-insurgency expert, in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, disclosed, yesterday (Monday), in Maiduguri that the joint troops effectively responded with superior firepower and successfully fought off the terrorists’ ambush.

According to him, the VBIED hit a Mine Resistance Ambush Vehicle (MRAP) belonging to the Nigérien troops of Sector 4, Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF); while the other hit a Hilux truck.

A military source in Maiduguri, also stated that the terrorists suffered significant casualties, even though the exact number is yet to be confirmed.

On how the attack was repelled, Makama, said: “This attack comes in less than 24 hours after the troops thwarted a similar one in Arege.

“It resulted in the killing of 10 terrorists with the destruction of their three operational vehicles.

“They made an audacious attempt to infiltrate the advancing troops’ harbor using a VBIED, but they were instantly naturalized.”

He noted that the wounded personnel were evacuated for treatment at a military hospital in Maiduguri,

According to him, the Operation Harbin Zuma was designed by the MNJTF to clear the terrorists’ hideouts and restore Sanity in the Lake Chad region.
