BUNI ORDERS REHABILITATION OF TWO BORDER ROADS TO NIGER

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state has directed the Ministry of Works and the State’s Road Traffic Maintenance Agency (YOROTA) to rehabilitate two border roads to the Niger Republic.

The roads to be rebuilt included the Geidam-Mainasoroa and Geidam-Bukarti roads covering a distance of about 150 kilometres to the border areas.

Buni gave the directives, yesterday (Friday), in Geidam, while laying the foundation stone of N3.8 billion ultra-modern market.

He said that the Works Ministry and Agency are to liaise with the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Baba Mallam Wali to complete the roads project.

“The rehabilitation of the border roads to the Niger Republic will enhance trade and commerce between the two countries,” he said.

Besides, he added that the haulage of agricultural products and livestock, could also be seamless to the various markets at lower costs of transportation.

He also directed Wali to find a suitable site for the building of the Geidam International Cattle (GIC) market in the border areas with Niger.

According to him, the Yobe State Geographic Information Service (BOGIS) is also to assist the Geidam council Chairman in the strategic sitting of the cattle market.

“This will provide an enabling environment for cattle dealers to discharge their business transactions with ease,” he noted.

In the 2023 general elections, he said: “The people should conduct themselves peacefully and pray for a hitch free conduct of elections in the state and the country.”

He, therefore, thanked the people for supporting the State government to implement its policies and programmes in the Council.
