Zulum Orders The Completion of Azare Borno Water Project by February

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum has ordered the State’s Ministry of Water Resources, Tijjani Alkali to complete the Azare Water Supply project by February, 2023.

The completion of the water project will serve eight communities including Hizhi, Fumwa, Bwala and Milala in Hawul local Council of the state.

Zulum gave the directives, after assessing the progress of work on the multi-million water project; sited at Azare, the Council headquarters in Borno south senatorial district.

The Governor, who is also an engineer, disclosed that: “The water project has 10 middle aquifer boreholes, with each pumping 10 litres of potable water a minute to overcome the challenges of water scarcity in the eight hilly communities.

“This is a challenge we had to overcome; before accessing potable water for our people living in the council areas,” he said.

Besides, he added that the overhead tank, is to contain and store about 560,000 litres of water.

According to him, the distribution of potable water will reach no less than 200.000 Azare households, including other communities in the Council area.

Other facilities of water project included a 560,000 litres surface tank with 400,000 litre capacity and an overhead tank with a 160,000 litre capacity of potable water to the people.

The Commissioner of Water Resources, Alkali further disclosed that the completion of the project, will include the reticulation of three kilometres of primary and secondary distribution networks with various water points in the eight communities.

He said that six boreholes have already been drilled with an outstanding four others to be completed to meet the Governor’s deadline of February, 2023.

 

In ensuring uninterrupted water supply, he said: “The Azare water project will be powered by a hybrid of 24,000 watts of solar capacity and a 100 KVA generating set.”

The Governor also approved five additional boreholes with high-yielding capacity as water sources to other towns in communities that may not access the supply of water from the Azare water project.

He ordered the Alkali to commence sinking and rehabilitation of five additional boreholes to bring the total number of water pumps to 40 in the Council areas.
