The news of renowned gospel singer, Sammie Okposo’s sudden passing on Friday, has sparked controversies on social media.

The Twitter has been agog with mixed reactions from Nigerians and music lovers.

Although details of Sammie Okposo’s death remain sketchy but close associates including singer, Buchi Atuonwu simply known as Buchi told Channels Television that he died on Friday in Abuja.

His colleague, Righteousman, who appears to still be in shock, described his passing as a tragedy.

He also added that the Welu Welu singer had also collapsed last week upon his return from his praise party concert in the UK and was treated for exhaustion.

Sammie was slated to minister, alongside other gospel singers, Eben, Chuks Praise, Joy Favour, and Victor Edit at the Outpouring Assembly International in Calabar between Friday, 25 November to 27 November.

Okposo, who was one of Nigeria’s most decorated gospel musicians, recently hit the headlines over an infidelity scandal. The singer later tendered an apology but later deleted the message on Instagram.

Following the scandal, he took time off from ministration in order to retrace his step with God.

In May, 2022, he escaped death after being involved in a ghastly car accident while driving on 3rd Mainland Bridge in Lagos.

Following the news of his demise, Nigerians on Twitter have reacted, with some saying his death was a repercussion of his affair while others paid tribute to the singer who has won souls to Christ with his sonorous voice.

A tweep, @thisisoluwakemi pointed out that several media outlets focused on his cheating scandal instead of his music career.

The tweep wrote: “The Internet didn’t talk about his musical career, but his infidelity scandal. Think about tomorrow before you make the moves. May his soul RIP!”

@esthyluvv agreed with @thisisoluwakemi and said: “Scandals leave a lasting mark on your person.”

“Whattttttt … someone that I just remember the other day, and was so hoping to see at ‘The Experience 2022’ this December ??‍♂️??‍♂️,” says @ems_naz who was shocked to hear of Sammie Okposo’s passing.

@iamakhidue, on his part, said it is unfortunate that many Nigerians don’t go for regular checkups.

He tweeted: “This is so sad, gone too soon. It’s unfortunate that many Nigerians don’t go for regular checkups and even some that want to get a checkup cannot afford it. When we hear someone slumped & died, it’s bcos of an underlying medical issue that was not treated properly. RIP Mr Okposo.”

@kingfredrick10 dubbed sympathizers “hypocrite” for posting the singer now that he is dead but criticized him for his wrong doings when he was alive.
