The World Health Organisation (WHO) in partnership with the Yobe state government, is to train health promotion officers on disease outbreaks disinformation and prevention.

According to the UN Organisation, public disinformation hinders the prevention of disease outbreaks in communities in the state.

Flagging off the training, yesterday (Thursday), in Damaturu, WHO’s State Coordinator, Dr. Nuhu Barau-Ningi, disclosed that: “About 47 percent of disseminated information on disease outbreaks are provided by health workers.”

He added that every information on health must be ‘genuine and proven’ by the health experts.

“We’re training the health promotion officers to scale up healthcare delivery services to the people in the state,” he said.

Besides, he added that health information that are genuine, are critical on how to contain disease outbreaks in various communities.

He warned that when information is distorted, it will be very difficult to curtail them from further spread.

Responding, the Executive Secretary, Primary Healthcare Management Board, Dr. Babagana Kundi-Machina, said that the training was to build the capacities of the health promotion officers on authentic and reliable information.

“This is how best to curtail the outbreaks and spread of diseases in the 17 Local Councils,” he said, as well as the border communities with Niger Republic.
