Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) in collaboration with the Civilian JTF have neutralized 19 Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Ngala Council of Borno state.
Ngala, a border community with Cameroon, is 235 kilometres east of Maiduguri, the state capital.
The terrorists were killed October 11, 2022, after the troops thwarted an ambush during a fighting patrol in the Dikwa-Gambouru axis.
Confirming the incident, yesterday (Wednesday), in Maiduguri, a counter-insurgency expert in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, disclosed: “A large number of the terrorists laid an ambush against the troops on patrol and commenced firing from the gun trucks and motorcycles.”
Besides, he said that the gallant troops however, countered the ambush that triggered the about an hour fierce gun battle with terrorists.
“The troops later overwhelmed the terrorists with superior firepower and inflicted humiliating defeat on them,” he said, stating that the terrorists were forced to abandon their nefarious attacks and fled towards Lake Chad.
On recovered arms, he said: “The troops captured a gun truck after killing its occupants, while nine each AK-47 rifles and motorcycles were also recovered.
“No fatalities was recorded on the side of troops,” noting that only two soldiers were injured and evacuated for treatment at a Maiduguri hospital.
