Zulum disburses N1B To Upgrade Borno Schools

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state has disbursed N1 billion for the renovations and upgrade of 10 schools in Maiduguri metropolis.

The upgrade tagged: “Schools Improvement Grants (SIG),” is a World Banki project for the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE).

Presenting the cheques, at the weekend, in Maiduguri to the Principal of Yerwa Girls Secondary School, Falmata Mustapha, the Governor disclosed that five utility vehicles and cars were presented to state’s implementation office unit of the learning and empowerment initiatives.

Zulum, represented by Comrade Musa Kubo, urged Falmata to make good use of the learning and empowerment grants on the targeted 10 schools for upgrade.

He, therefore, called on teachers to take advantage of AGILE to improve the education sector affected by the over a decade Boko Haram insurgency in the state.

“The learning and empowerment grants, including the distributed vehicles will also improve the living conditions of teachers,” he said.

According to him, as retired teachers, the era for their rewards in heaven is however gone, as the Governor is determine to improve education in the state.

While thanking for the education and empowerment initiatives, the Commissioner of Education, Lawan Wakilbe commended Ibrahim Baba settling the State and Federal Ministry of Education to approve the implementation of the World Bank project.

He added that the Zulum admiration has also engaged 800 new teachers with a pledge to implement teachers’ salaries across the state.

He, therefore warned the teachers against absenteeism, as they are expected to be punctual at their teaching posts.

The AGILE, Project Coordinator, Ibrahim Baba said that the World Bank support, was for Nigeria’s adolescent girls education.

He explained that AGILE comprises empowerment of girls to attain education and equip them with various skills.

Speaking on funding, he said; “Funding for the JSS and SSS construction will be provided in tranches based on verification for completion of activities other construction work,” adding that this will align with the state’s network of secondary schools expansion strategy.
