Hunters, Vigilantes Kill Boko Haram Commander, Deputy In Borno

A combined team of hunters and vigilantes have killed a Boko Haram commander and his deputy in a clash with terrorists in Shaffa Taku village of Sambisa Forest in Borno.

 

The vigilantes, led by Mohammed Yohanna, recovered an AK-47 rifle and motorcycles used in attacking several communities on the fringes of forest.

 

Confirming the neutralization of terrorists, yesterday (Tuesday) in Maiduguri, Yohanna disclosed that over a dozen insurgents escaped with gunshot wounds on motorcycles.

 

“The terrorists have been terrorizing us and prevented our people to go to their farmlands,” he said, noting that Mandaragirau, Sabon Gari and two other villages were also attacked in May to displace over 5,000 villagers.

Besides, he added that terrorists also forcefully impose taxes on farmers and herders after rustling and looting cattle and food items in the affected communities.

 

“We arrested some Boko Haram food suppliers with the recovery of N6.1 million from the neutralized terrorists,” noting that the money was stolen from some of the attacked villages in Hawul local council of Borno state.

 

According to him, the recovered money has been handed over to 231 Battalion, Biu for further investigation/

 

On how the commanders were killed, he said: “The hunters acted on an intelligence information provided by volunteers to me,” explaining that the information dwells on movements of terrorists in the last two weeks in Sambisa Forest.

Continuing, he said: “I mobilized my team and stormed the spot in the evening at Shaffa Taku, which had been abandoned in Damboa.

 

“Luckily, we sighted 20 armed terrorists riding motorcycles,” stating that hunters engaged them in fierce battle and killed the Commander and his Deputy (names withheld).
