Governor Mai Mala Buni Yobe State has expressed concerns over the low turnout of electorates to collect their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs), 10 days to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deadline.
Out of 1.4 million registered voters in the State, only 197, 000 or 14.1% of the electorates collected their PVCs for the 2023 General elections.
Lamenting the low collection of PVCs, yesterday (Sunday), in Damaturu, the Special Adviser on Political Matters to Buni, Aji Yerima Bularafa disclosed that Yobe state is far behind others in the collections and retention of the voting cards.
According to him, the PVCs will enable the electorates exercise their rights to elect their leaders during the forthcoming general polls at the national and state levels.
He noted that it was Potiskum Council that collected the highest number of PVCs among the 17 Local Government Areas in the state.
He, therefore, urged people that reached the age of 18 and above to obtain their PVCs from INEC on or before June 30, 2022.
Besides, he added the state government summoned an emergency meeting with the stakeholders from the councils for the electorates obtain their voting cards.”
Bularafa also stated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) Council party Chairmen were also directed to mobilize eligible voters collect their PVCs at INEC offices across the state.
