Shettima, Others Clinch APC Unopposed Return Tickets In Borno

Senators Kashim Shettima and Ali Ndume, representing Borno Central and South senatorial districts have clinched the All Progressive Congress (APC) return tickets unopposed to contest the 2023 general elections.

 

Shettima, at the weekend, in Maiduguri, won unopposed with 479 votes at the party’s secretariat, while Ndume was also returned unopposed, as Idris Durkwa was disqualified by the party’s screening committee for taking APC to Court in 2019, after the governorship election in the state.

 

Hon. Mohammed Monguno, the Chief Whip in the House of Representatives, was also returned unopposed at the senatorial primaries held in Maiduguri, the state capital.

 

He is to contest for the Borno North Senatorial election, as Sen. Abubakar Kyari had already resigned from the red-hallow chamber to become the APC National Vice Chairman.

 

Declaring Sen. Kashim unopposed, the Borno Central senatorial primary election committee Chairman, Musa Mahmoud, explained that the delegates opted for voting through casting, before the results were declared.

Besides, he added: “Consequently, on the authority of the National Chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Adamu, I hereby declare, having satisfied all extant laws, the Electoral Act, 1999 as amended, I declare Senator Kashim Shettima as the winner of Borno Central Senatorial election.”  

 

“The primary conducted in Borno Central on Saturday, which is today, was unopposed. Article 20 clause A, clause 3 of the APC constitution.”

 

He noted that they are to either conduct the election by voice vote or actual casting of vote,” stating that the committee and the delegates chose to cast votes.

 

Continuing; “I hereby declare as follows: total accredited voters, 480, total votes cast 479 and invalid one.”

 

For the 10 federal constituencies in Borno state, Bukar Kareto was also unopposed to contest election in the Abadam/Guzamala/Kukawa/Mobbar federal constituency.

Others that were returned unopposed to contest, include Dr. Zainab Gimba for Bama/Ngala/Kala/Balge constituency, Usman Zannah for Kaga/Magumeri/Gubio, Abdulkadir Rahis for the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC), Ahmed Satomi for Jere, Tarpaya Asarya for Askira/Uba/Hawul, Muhammad Abuna for Konduga/Dikwa/Mafa, Muktar Betara for Biu/Shani/Bayo/Kwaya/Kusar and Usman Jaha for Gwoza/Damboa/Chibok federal constituencies in the state.

 

For the State House of Assembly, six new candidates emerged at the primaries. They include Karta Maina for Konduga constituency, Abba Kyari Abba Kola (Jere), Bukar Modu (Konduga), Ibrahim Kwajaffa (Hawul), Nuhu Clark (Chibok) and Ali Abacha (Ngala).

 

The remaining 22 candidates that clinched the tickets to contest the State House of Assembly election comprise Abba Kyari representing Jere constituency, Bukar Modu (Konduga), Ibrahim Kwajaffa (Hawul), Nuhu Clark (Chibok), Jamna Bong (Abadam), Mala Sunoma (Bama Central), Maigari Abari (Askira/Uba), Yahaya Gimba (Biu), Baba Shehu (Gulumba Woloji) and Malami Korede (Damboa).

Other candidates that won the tickets include Zakari Dikwa (Dikwa), Abdullahi Abacha (Guzamala), Modu Moruma (Gubio), Mustapha Alibe (Kaga), Ibrahim Babale (Kwaya/Kusar), Dige Mohammed (Kala/Balge), Usman Muruma (Mobbar), Maina Garbu (Monguno), Gambomi Marte (Marte), Mohammed Gajiram (Nganzai) and Ibrahim Musa Kubo (Shani).

 

The APC State Chairman, Ali Bukar Dalori, commended Governor Babagana Zulum for supporting the party to remain united to sweep the general elections in 2023.

 

He also applauded Sen. Shettima for the good work he’s been doing at the National Assembly in Abuja.

 

Dalori, therefore, thanked the delegates and stakeholders for remaining calm and resolute, to represent their 28 local government constituencies in Borno.
