The Federal Government has distributed 103, 929 cooking utensils to Yobe state government feed about a million pupils in schools
The feeding programmed is implemented in 248 schools across the 17 Local Government Areas in the state.
Handing over the utensils, yesterday (Thursday) in Damaturu, representative of the Humanitarian Affairs Minister, Hassan Maiduguri disclosed that; “The distribution of cooking and feeding utensils, was to expedite the feeding programme in schools.”
According to him, the schools feeding intervention programme was strategic plans of the Ministry to encourage children attend schools.
“It seeks to ensure that the targeted pupils have the best experience of hygiene and safety; while taking their free meals,” he said.
He, therefore, urged the school authorities, including the cooks to put good use of the utensils for children’s health and safety.
He added that the National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP) was one of the four key interventions of the federal government under the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP).
He noted that the feeding programme was meant to boost school enrollment, nutrition, and local economic activities in communities across the nation.
“We’ll continue to improve quality service delivery in all its social interventions pro, particularly NHGSFP,” he assured.
Responding, Governor Mai Mala Buni commended the gesture, stating that the feeding programme has impacted positively on school attendance and retention.
Buni, represented by Bulau Geidam of the State’s Humanitarian Affairs; said that the state government will continue to support and complement the Federal Government’s efforts.
He added that the programme has created more job opportunities to youths and women in the state.
