Zulum Sets Panel To Return IDPs Into Borno Community

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state has setup a panel to return internally displaced persons (IDPs) into Kirawa community. The border Community with Cameroon, was attacked by Boko Haram insurgents in 2016, destroying public structures and displacements of residents. Zulum disclosed this at the weekend (Sunday) at Kirawa, while supervising the reconstruction works with distribution of relief materials and pledges of stipends.

“This panel, is led by the Commissioner of Housing and Energy, Saleh Vungas to complete rebuilding the destroyed houses and public structures,” he said; stating that members of the resettlement committee are to complete their work in three weeks.

He said that the completion of reconstruction works in Kirawa and Ngoshe border communities, could enable the IDPs return to their ancestral homes this year. According to him, water supply, schools, healthcare services and livelihoods will be restored before the IDPs are returned.

He assured households, whose houses are yet to be rebuilt; will be supported with N100, 000 and other relief materials to rebuild their houses, Zulum assured families whose houses have not been rebuilt, will be supported with N100, 000 each and other forms of support, to enable them rebuild ancestral homes.

The Governor enjoined the people to cooperate with the military by giving them maximum support by reporting suspicious movements in communities. While commending the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in Kirawa, he assured the State Government’s support with the goodwill of the presidential committee on reparation and resettlement of IDPs and refugees.

He added that the Civilian JTF, vigilantes and hunters are patriotic by supporting the military and other security agencies in the fight against terrorism. He assured them of a sustained provision of logistics to end the war in Sambisa Forest and Mandara Hills. The MNJTF Commander also displayed 517 bicycles and over a dozen motorcycles seized from the insurgents, while patrolling the Pulka/Ngoshe/Ashgashiya axis in Gwoza council.
