Military, Zulum Roads Reopening Excites Chamber In Borno

Date:

The Borno State Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (BOCCIMA) has commended the Military and Governor Babagana Zulum in reopening two roads in the State.

The reopened roads include Maiduguri-Bama-Banki and the Maiduguri-Dikwa-Gambouru linking Cameroon, Chad and Niger.

BOCCIMA’s Director General, Abdullahi Usman, disclosed, yesterday (Thursday), in Maiduguri that; “The reopening of roads will quicken the resumption of commercial activities in the border communities of three neighbouring countries.”

According to him, it is a good development for the State Government and various border communities.

He lamented that most of the members of Chamber, lost their major sources of livelihoods in the over a decade insurgency that claimed many lives.

Besides, he added that the reopening of roads over insecurity, has become the backbone of the State’s business and farming communities.

Usman noted that the Maiduguri-Gambouru road, is the famous Trans Sahara trade route to North African countries.

Speaking on other closed roads, he said: “We’re expecting similar reopening of the Maiduguri-Monguno-Baga road,” noting that it will fully resume smoked fish trade and other economic activities

He said the roads reopening could also fast track the resettlement and peace process in the state.

He, therefore, urged the federal government to rehabilitate the roads for a seamless transportation network in the Northeast.
