LSHA ADOPTS RECOMMENDATIONS ON STAFF HOUSING BILL, 2021

Lagos State House of Assembly has adopted the recommendations of the House Committee on Establishments, Training, Pensions and Public Service on the Lagos State Government Staff Housing Board Bill, 2021.

It would be recalled that a Public Hearing was held on Friday, 5th November, 2021, to deliberate on the proposed Law which is aimed at repealing the Lagos State Government Staff Housing Board Law, 2015 and re-enacting the same for effective and efficient performance and better service delivery.

The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Oluyinka Ogundimu presenting the report on the floor of the House during Plenary, highlighted the recommendations of the Committee, noting that the submissions and contributions raised by the stakeholders during the Public Hearing were incorporated.

Observations were raised by Members during the deliberation over the civil servant strictly composition of the Board membership, the reversion of acquired lands not used by the government, the seeming master servant relationship in the bill amongst other issues to which the chairman adequately explained the importance of the recommendations expatiate in the report and the reasons for some of the decisions made.

In line with the observations, Hon. Tobun Abiodun added that the Bill is meant for the welfare of civil servants in the State and the omnibus is on the Permanent Secretary.

Hon. (Engr.) Setonji David pointed out that the Bill should be explicit in its application of the Law.

Subsequently to the unanimous voice vote of the Members, the House adopted the recommendations of the Committee as the report of the House as amended.
