The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs has donated 500 KVA electric generator and 10,000 litres of diesel to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) in Borno State.

Presenting the plant and diesel yesterday (Friday) in Maiduguri, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs representative, Grp-Cpt. Continued: “When we were here last year to hand over the Burns Centre, the Minister heard the need for a standby generator to complement this humanitarian project.

“She immediately also accepted the idea of the Managing Director of North East Development Commission (NEDC), Mohammed Alkali that the donated plant and litres of diesel be handed over to lit UMTH.”

While responding, Alkali noted that the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs has acknowledged the services being rendered by victims of insurgency, particularly the injured ones in hospital wards.

“Today’s visit to UMTH is to fulfill the promise made by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs. I called it a promise made, kept and delivered to the Chief Medical Director, Ahmed Ahijo,” he said.

Ahijo therefore commended the Commission for the rescue of the hospital, during power outages that lasted for a year.

He also acknowledged the support provided during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We’re appealing for more interventions and assistance from the Ministry to enable us to render more healthcare delivery services,” he said.
