The Federal Government of Nigeria and Cameroon are completing arrangements to demarcate their international boundaries through a joint demarcations exercise in 2022.
Disclosing the boundary demarcations at a recent meeting with the Special Representative of United Nations Secretary-General, Mahamat Salem Annadif in Abuja, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami said: “Let me assure you that the Nigerian delegation is confident that under your leadership, the Cameroon-Nigeria Mixed Commission, (CNMC) will continue to achieve more successes in the demarcation exercise.
He explained that the joint exercise is to demarcate the boundaries between the two countries.
According to him, boundary demarcations between Cameroon and Nigeria, are in accordance with the judgment of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and other relevant treaties and declarations of the UN.
While assuring the demarcations in 2022, Malami said: “The Nigerian delegation is confident that under your leadership, the Cameroon-Nigeria Mixed Commission, (CNMC) will continue to achieve more successes,”
Continued: “The Federal Government will appreciate if most areas of disagreement are resolved and demarcated in line with the judgment of ICJ without fear or favouring any of the two neighbouring countries.
“The proposed session of this mixed commission will be convened soon in Yaoundé that could pave the way for the landmark achievements on the international boundary demarcation exercise this year.
The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola disclosed recently that the 1.5km Nigeria-Cameroon dual lane bridge at Ekot-Mfum in Etung local council of Cross River state will boost trade between the two countries.
