Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state has inaugurated an International Primary School (IPSC) in Buni/Gari community of Gujba Council. The school project comprises four block classrooms with a total of 16 classrooms, an ICT laboratory, internet facilities, solar-powered electricity, water supply and toilets. During the 12-year Boko Haram insurgency, several schools and public buildings were torched with the loss of lives and property. According to him, the new school is also part of the recovery process and a corporate social responsibilities (CSR) of Shell Petroleum Company. The school named after the Governor named after him for children to attend school.“Today’s commissioning is part of our administration’s priority of resuscitating basic and secondary education in the state,” he said, noting that the international school will provide opportunities for children to acquire western education along Islamic one. He noted that education will no doubt impact directly on the lives of school age children.
Besides, he added that the school project will contribute towards the long-term security and socio-economic status of the beneficiaries. He said that after many years out of school, children will now have chances of equal opportunity, employment potentials and economic empowerment. “They will be provided with means of livelihood, protection and resilience in their lives. He therefore thanked the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria, the NNPC/SPDC/TEPNG/Agip Joint Ventures and other partners for completing the school project. He noted that the school has actualized the educational emergency intervention during the post-insurgency recovery drive to restore livelihoods. and other critical sectors in the state. He also directed the Council Chairman and other security agencies to provide 24-hour security to the school.
