Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state has commiserated with the families of 30 victims of air strike at Buhari village in Yunusari Local Government Area. The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter jet Wednesday mistakenly fired at villagers, while conducting aerial patrols along the border areas with Niger Republic. Spokesman to Buni, Mamman Mohammed; in a statement Thursday in Damaturu; disclosed: “It could have been an accident or mistaken air targets, but the government will collaborate with security agencies to investigate the cause of yesterday’s incident.” He said that eight people were killed with 22 being hospitalized at Damaturu and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH).
Buni therefore directed his Special Adviser on Security Affairs; to liaise with NAF and the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), to investigate the unfortunate air strikes on villagers. He said the collaboration will facilitate the root cause of the accidental air strikes in Yusufari council area. “This is very important and necessary for us to guard against future occurrence,” he warned, noting that this could safeguard people’s lives and property. Meanwhile, the Governor has directed government hospitals in Geidam and Damaturu to offer free medical services to those who sustained injuries in the air strikes. Similarly, the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has also been directed to provide relief materials to the surviving victims and members of the community.
