Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have nabbed a terrorist for supplying bomb-making materials in Geidam Council of Yobe State. The suspect, Yusuf Saleh, was arrested at Bayamari along the Geidam/Gashua road for allegedly supplying 38 bags of urea fertilizer for terrorists’ bomb making. Spokesman of the Army, Brig-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu; in a statement Saturday in Maiduguri; said that; “The suspect was nabbed by the vigilant troops with a total of 38 bags of fertilizer following a tip off.” He disclosed that; the urea fertilizer has been banned by the Federal Government; because of its usage in the manufacture of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) by terrorists. He said that the suspect is being investigated for more useful information on the intentions of fertilizer supplies to terrorists in the border areas with Niger. “Our troops have been commended for their vigilance with swift response in arresting Saleh in the village,” he said.
He also encouraged them not to allow any form of distraction from the marauding terrorists. He noted that the terrorists have suffered acute manpower depletion as a result of ongoing kinetic and non kinetic military operations in Sambisa Forest and the Lake Chad region. “Law-abiding people of the region; are assured of the Chief of Army Staff’s determination to finally exterminate the Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province criminals from their hideouts,” he said. He therefore urged the people to continue avail the troops with credible information that would enhance the execution of the ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the region.
