Zulum orders renovation of police primary school , skills acquisition centre

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum of Borno State has ordered the renovation of police children’s school with the establishment of skills acquisition centre in Maiduguri, the state capital. He also directed the Borno State Geographical Information Service (BOGIS) to provide land for the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) before the end of this year. According to him, the completion of skills acquisition centre was to train widows and orphans of deceased policemen.

He gave the orders at the weekend in Maiduguri, while receiving wife of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Hajiya Hajara Usman Baba at Government House, Maiduguri. Zulum reiterated to Hajara and her entourage on the importance of skills acquisition centre fight unemployment and poverty among youths. She lamented on the deplorable conditions of the Police primary schools in Maiduguri metropolis for Governor’s intervention and renovation of school.

“Your Excellency; we want land to establish the Skills Acquisition Centre (SAC) for our members and orphaned children,” she said. She disclosed that the over 2,000 widows and orphans; are to be trained in various skills and other trades. According to her, the training was to restore their destroyed livelihoods during the 12-year Boko Haram insurgency.

She therefore commended the Governor on his laudable projects towards in restoring of peace and economic growth and development. Her words: “Borno is the first northern State we are visiting after Lagos, Rivers, and Ogun States. “We are here because of the way you carry everybody along. You are not discriminating any form of human being.” She applauded Zulum’s humanitarian services to the displaced persons and families of security personnel that have lost their lives on duty.

Meanwhile, Governor Zulum, while hosting the IGP’s wife on Saturday, paid tribute to Borno State Police Command with respect human rights. “When the cases of Police brutality in various communities were raised, Borno was the first state to publicly acknowledge contributions of the Nigeria Police Force towards respecting citizens’ rights while safeguarding lives and property,” he said, adding that he passed a vote of confidence on the Police, for the good works they are doing.” He said the Police has played significant roles in state’s growing stability and restoration of civil authorities, particularly in the liberated Local Government Areas.
