The North East Governors’ Forum (NEGF) has urged the North East Development Commission (NEDC) to consult with six state governments on the commission’s projects sites and priorities in the region. The demands for the Commission’s priorities were contained in a communique issued Tuesday at the fifth meeting of Governors in Jalingo, the Taraba state capital. “We’re deeply concerned over the lack of consultation between the commission and various state governments in the region, on projects and their sites,” said Governor Babagana Zulum, the forum’s chairman. He said that the Governors lamented at the slow pace of completing projects and the ongoing ones in Adamawa, Borno, Bauchi, Taraba, Gombe and Yobe states. Zulum also called on the commission to consult with the six Governors on the Northeast Development Master plan. According to him, NEDC should expedite action on the completion of all existing and ongoing projects in the region. On repositioning the education sector, he said: “This Forum received a report from the North East Council on Education and had accepted its advisory on the improvement of quality and performance of students and teachers’ screening and training in the region.” Damaturu, the Yobe state capital was slated by the forum to hold its next meeting on October 9, 2021.
