Borno APC Adopts Consensus Mode Of Elections At Congresses

The Borno state chapter of All Progressive Congress (APC) has adopted the ‘consensus mode of elections’ at the ward, council and state levels. The decision was taken on Tuesday; during the party’s stakeholders meeting held at the Multi-Purpose Hall of Government House, Maiduguri. The Deputy Governor, Usman Kadafur moved the motion and seconded by Alhaji Abdu of the Borno State House of Assembly. The adoption of mode of election, was also put to voice-vote where all the stakeholders, including members of the National and State Houses of Assemblies. They also unanimously agreed for consensus elections at ward, council and state levels.

Governor Babagana Zulum urged stakeholders to ensure that party rules and regulations are strictly adhered to during the forthcoming Congresses slated for Saturday, July 30, 2021. “Non-compliance with election rules and regulations have resulted in litigation in some states,” he warned. He noted that the election defiance also affected the chances of APC in the 2019 general elections. He added that the stakeholders should not engage in any act that could threaten the unity of the party in the state. While speaking on party leadership, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South Senatorial District, said: “We are used to the adoption of consensus in electing party leaders at the ward, council and state levels.” According to Sen. Kashim Shettima, the former governor of Borno state, said that; “We’ve already resolved as a family to adopt the consensus mode of congress elections, which is allowed by the party constitution. He said that all the segments of the party will have a sense of belonging, as stakeholders have always acted as a united political party.
