NEDC Supports Boko Haram Victims With 300 Tons Relief Materials

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has delivered 300 tons of food and non-food items to Boko Haram victims in Yobe. Geidam, a border town with Niger; was attacked by terrorists on April 23, 2021 and killed seven civilians and a soldier. While sympathizing with affected Geidam residents, in Damaturu, the NEDC Managing Director, Mohammed Alkali disclosed that; “I commended you for your resilience to remain calm in the border communities of Niger.” He noted that the state government’s support has also calmed down the insecurity situation; before distributing these relief materials to the victims of insurgency. While delivering items on the weekend in the state capital, he said: “We’re here in Damaturu a few weeks ago to launch the Rapid Response Initiative to provide basic facilities across the state.

“I’m to inform you that of the 94 projects being initiated by the commission, 80 are ongoing.” He said that other projects completed include the ones in the water supply, sanitation and education sectors,” noting that most of the projects have reached 60% completion.    According to him, the delivered food and non-food relief items comprise 7,000 bags of rice, 1,500 gallons and cartons each of cooking oil, tomato paste, spaghetti, mats and facemasks. Other delivered relief items include 125 cartons and 3,000 sets of hand sanitizers and women wrappers. He said that the commission engaged women and youths participate in the ICT training programme with starter kits in Gashua. While thanking Alkali, Secretary of the Geidam stakeholders’ forum, Mohammed Abacha assured that the delivered materials will be distributed to the victims of insurgency.
