The Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni has engaged 54 new nurses to boost the healthcare delivery system in hospitals and clinics. According to him, six comprehensive health centres are upgraded to General Hospitals in Bara, Yusufari, Jajimaji, Babangida, Nguru and Machina, a border town with Niger. While approving the recruitment of nurses, he disclosed: “Four General Hospitals in Gashua, Potiskum, Geidam, Buni/Yadi have also been upgraded to Specialists Hospitals. He therefore ordered that, “Only qualified nurses should be employed to provide services in the health institutions across the state,” stating that the nurses to be employed are 2020 graduates of the Shehu Sule College of Nursing and Midwifery. He said the employment of more nurses was inevitable; following the establishment, expansion and upgrade of more health institutions. The Governor urged the nurses to be dedicated to duty, as they are being absorbed into the state civil service.
