Army Reiterates Troops’ Support, Welfare On Peace Return In Northeast

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru has reiterated troops’ support and their welfare to return peace to the Northeast. The 12-year Boko Haram insurgency has killed 36,000 people with property worth $9.1 billion (about N3.42 trillion) in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states. While announcing support on Friday at the Ramadan Luncheon for troops at the Maimalari Sports complex, Maiduguri, he disclosed: “We’ve made provisions for all your requirements succeed in the quick return of peace in the entire northeast and northwest,” adding that it also include other operations of Army across the country. He said the luncheon is to motivate troops and show appreciation of the President and Commander in Chief for the great job they’ve been doing in the theatre.

He therefore commended all officers and soldiers of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) for their selfless sacrifices in the theatre of war. While assuring the troops of support, he said: “You’ll be rest assured that the Theatre Commander, Maj-Gen. Farouq Yahaya outlined will continue to get the needed support to execute your mandate to the letter.” The Theatre Commander, Maj-Gen. Yahaya also said that the Ramadan Luncheon is an annual event designed to celebrate and appreciate the troops in the front lines of Sambisa Forest and the Lake Chad Regions. He noted that the presence of Attahiru at the luncheon gives the troops a sense of belonging to enhance commandeering and togetherness of highest order. “There is no honour more than having the Chief of Army Staff right here for the Sallah luncheon,” he said. He therefore assured Attahiru of loyalty to constituted authority, including the mandate to defeat Boko Haram terrorists. According to him, this could also restore law and order across the northeast region.
