The joint military operations also led to the recovery of several rifles and ammunition along Maiduguri/Dikwa road.

Director, Army Public Relations, Brig-Gen. Mohammed Yerima in a statement Wednesday in Maiduguri, disclosed: “Troops of Tura Takaibango operations took out scores of Boko Haram fighters along the Dikwa Local Government area axis with Cameroon.

On how terrorists were neutralized, he said: “Our troops on patrol came in contact with the terrorists on motorcycles and gun trucks.

“The gallant soldiers swiftly engaged them in a fierce firefight, killing six of them,” adding that several weapons were also recovered from the fleeing insurgents into the Lake Chad region.”

According to him, the recovered arms comprise a PKM, two AK-47 rifles, an FN rifle, three FN rifle magazines and 67 PKM linked rounds of ammunition.

He said other items recovered include two motorcycles, a magazine pouch, two mobile handsets and a tube of adhesive solution.

Similarly, he added that troops of Bravo Company while on similar routine perimeter patrol on March 15, 2021, recovered a mobile handset phone suspected to have been abandoned fleeing terrorists.

Continuing he added: “The insurgents came under troops’ heavy fire during the attempt to infiltrate the camp on March 14, 2021.

“The handset has been handed over to 7 Military Intelligence Brigade for scrutiny.”

He noted that in line with the directive of Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Ibrahim Attahiru, troops will continue to remain resolute and determined to ensure that the general area is completely cleared of terrorists’ remnants.

“We’re dominating every route where terrorists are suspected to move around in order to smoke them out,” he said.
