In Fulfilment of his administration’s promise to sustain good governance through the provision of enduring infrastructure that could fast track the smart city journey of the State, Lagos State Government at the weekend, commissioned the Ariyo (Mile 10) – Ira Muwo – Tedi Bridge (Phase 1) in Ojo Local Government Area of the State. Speaking at the Commissioning ceremony, Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by his deputy, Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat said the commissioning of the road project and link bridges was a step towards realizing the objective of the Pillar ‘T’, which is efficient Traffic Management and Transportation in the Six-Pillars Development Agenda of the administration to enhance good governance. According to him, the guiding principle of the administration from the inception was to ensure that important man-hours that would have been otherwise lost to traffic gridlock is saved, boost inter-connectivity across the state and generally, make life better for commuters and residents in Lagos State. “This administration upon assumption office has put greater amounts of energy into providing transportation solutions of various forms across the metropolis so as to ease free movement of people, goods and services for a more prosperous and economically viable Lagos,” he stated. Sanwo Olu who expressed happiness for the quality of work delivered explained that one of the ways to ease the perennial gridlocks often encountered by residents and commuters along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, due to the ongoing construction was to redirect traffic to the inner roads by providing diversions and alternative routes, the reason which he said made the construction of the project became necessary for free flow of traffic.

The Governor, who also disclosed that construction work was equally ongoing on two other vital link roads, stated that the projects would not only help to eliminate traffic bottlenecks often experienced by communities along Lagos-Badagry Expressway, but also inject considerable life into the local economy, while traffic induced stresses are reduced to a barest minimum. He said the whole state has been turned into a construction site giving the volume of the ongoing works across the State, explaining that he would use the occasion of the commissioning to also flag-off the construction work on Phases 4 and 5 of the Project; consisting of the Muwo Jetty and the road up to the car park of the jetty, while the Phase 3 of the project – Tedi-Muwo Road through Abule Oshun Road connects with the ongoing road. “With the completion of the network of roads and link bridges, commuters, businesses and residents will enjoy a lease of life and this is what governance is all about, creating and expanding opportunities for our people to enjoy and progressively facilitating good quality of life and living condition is what this administration is fully committed to,” he said. In her welcome address, the Special Adviser to Governor Sanwo-Olu on Works and Infrastructure, Engr. (Mrs) Aramide Adeyoye, said the commissioning of the project in-spite of various challenges was a further demonstration of the administration’s determined effort to move the State forward. According to her, “Ojo (Mile 10) axis no doubt is one of the busiest and most strategic on Lagos-Badagry Expressway given its connection to the commercial nerve centre of Alaba International Electronic and Furniture markets and its links to densely populated and commercial areas such as Ariyo; Olojo road; Ira Muwo; Tedi; Abule Oshun, Trade fair Spare Part Market and among others.” She explained that the construction has provided functional bye pass to the Lagos-Badagry Expressway between Ojo Alaba, Volks and Trade Fair Bus Stops. She added that the Ira Muwo Bridge component of the project with a length of 450metres in length and 11metres in width is a masterstroke project as it would strengthen commercial activities and promote economic growth of the area.
