Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum has distributed food items with the support of N150 million to 11, 000 households in Gwoza council. Boko Haram declared the border town with Cameroon, as a Caliphate in 2013, but reclaimed by the military in August 2014. The distributed food items include 25 truckloads of rice, beans and maize grits. While distributing the items Sunday in Gwoza, he said: “Each of the households are to collect 12.5kg of rice, beans and maize grits.
“We’re also supporting 30,000 women with financial support of N150 million, where each of them are given a token of N5, 000,” he said. On communities’ insecurity, he said that the security situation in Gwoza Emirate Council (GEC) is improving; but farmers could not access their farmlands. He noted that even though some farmers attempted to engage in agricultural activities, they are however; restricted within a kilometre or two to farm. “This was why we’re here in Gwoza to distribute 25 trucks of food items to the households,” he said, noting that many of them have lost their means of livelihoods in the over a decade insurgency.
He added the General Hospital and the rebuilt Mega school are being inspected to resume healthcare and academic services to the people and students. He urged the people to cooperate with the Army, while peace is being restored in affected communities.
