The Nigerian troops are to join armed forces of Chad, Cameroon and Niger to fight Boko Haram insurgency that has claimed many lives and property. The joint aerial and ground military operations are to bring an end to the over a decade long insurgency in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states. While announcing the new operations Wednesday at the Special Super Camp 1, Ngamdu, Borno state, the Chief of Army Staff, Maj-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru disclosed that the armed forces are working hard to bring an end to insurgency to restore peace in the northeast.
“We’re working in collaboration with our Chadian, Cameroon and Niger counterparts to see that we end the Boko Haram insurgency in no distance time,” he said. Continuing, he added: “The entire operational process involves taking over the theatre command. Thereafter, you visit the troops under various commanders.
“I was briefed by their commanders and they have listed their problems in the front lines.
“We’ll go back and articulate and address these problems to end this insurgency that has claimed many lives.”
He said that he is happy with what the troops are doing, while their problems are being addressed to boost their morale in the theatre of war. While thanking the troops for their resilience and professionalism, he said: “I am here to pay you a special thank you visit.
“Mr. President and the Commander in Chief are happy with you and he has sent you his greetings and we are proud of you.
“You have pushed out these criminals far; and you will continue to do the same subsequently until we end this war.”
He therefore assured troops of his support and robust welfare packages to boost their morale as they continue the war against insurgency. “We’re making tremendous efforts to address your operational problems in a couple of weeks,” he said, noting that the issue of overstay in the mission area would also be addressed, including troops redeployment.
