The Yobe state Commissioner of Education, Dr. Mohammed Idriss has said that teachers will be employed for the correctional centres across the state. According to him, arrangements have been concluded to recruit experts to teach inmates on Western and Islamic education. In a statement yesterday in Damaturu, the state capital, he disclosed: “I’m satisfied with the skills acquisition training for the inmates serving their various jail terms at the Maximum Security Custodial Centre, Potiskum.” He noted that the engagement of teachers was to complement Federal Government efforts in the rehabilitation and reformation of inmates. He added that he was directed by Governor Mai Mala Buni to explore areas that require government intervention for inmates to acquire various skills. While responding to teachers’ engagement, the Comptroller of Corrections, Ali Isah thanked the commissioner for the correctional centre visit to Potiskum. He assured that the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS) is ready to partner the state to educate inmates for reintegration into society.
