The National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) is to order two million woven sacks to implement the National Youths Farmers Scheme (NYFS). The sacks; according to NALDA; are to be used for ‘grow your food’ and distribution of rabbits’ waste fertilizer to farmers. NALDA’s Executive Secretary, Prince Paul Ikonne disclosed this Tuesday in Maiduguri, while announcing Borno state, as one of the pilot states to implement agricultural schemes. “Your Excellency, we are in your state based on Mr. President’s directives that we should activate, recover and reactivate NALDA abandoned farm estates in the country,” he said. He said that Borno has been chosen as one of the states for all the pilot programmes of NALDA. He noted that; that is the only way Nigeria could move forward by harnessing synergy to work with states that are creative with governors’ focuses. “We’re going to engage 2,040 youth farmers into fish production in the state,” adding that they will also be trained and fully equipped. He assured that NALDA will partner with the governor to engage the youths in fish production and processing. According to him, the engagement of youths could also reduce unemployment and poverty in the state. “They will begin to be employers of labour and make money for themselves and their families,” he said.
