Buni To Engage 3,000 New Teachers Into Yobe Mega Schools

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state, is to engage 3,000 new teachers into the mega schools across the state. The recruitment of new teachers was to address their shortages in various schools, including the seven mega schools to be completed this year. While announcing the commencement of model schools at the weekend in Damaturu, the Commissioner of Information, Abdullahi Bego disclosed that with declaration of emergency in the education sector, the state government embarked on construction of more schools with the renovations of existing ones in 17 councils. According to him, the renovated model primary schools in five LGAs and to be completed mega schools, are being secured with perimeter fencing. Continuing, he added: “To prevent further spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the state government also fumigated all the schools against COVID-19. “We’re also to reform the Almajiri Education System to prevent street begging and acquire basic numeracy, while they acquire Quranic education in the Tsangaya schools.” Meanwhile, he said that seven model schools are completed in Geidam, Gashu’a, Nguru, Potiskum, Buni/Yadi and Damaturu. He said the model schools will commence academic activities in the first quarter of 2021. According to him, other achievements recorded last year include the approval of N200 million for the students’ 2018/2019 scholarships. He added that 204 youths were also sponsored to undergo undergraduate courses in India and other Asian countries. He noted that 69 law school students were also sponsored during the 2020 fiscal year.
