Borno Donates N15 million To Families Of Fallen Heroes

The Borno state government, House of Assembly and the High Commissioner of Chad; have donated over N15 million to families of fallen heroes. According to the Government, the fallen heroes participated in World Wars I and II, peace keeping missions and Boko Haram insurgency that claimed many lives and property. Governor Babagana Zulum disclosed this Friday in Maiduguri to mark the Armed Forces Remembrance Day at Ramat Square, Maiduguri. Zulum, who was represented by his Deputy, Umar Kadafur; said: “The donations of commissioners, legislators, civil servants, the Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole and the General Officer Commanding (GOC); 7 Division, Nigerian Army are to cushion the hardships of fallen heroes’ wives and Nigeria Legion.” He said the weeklong celebration was also to offer special prayers for the departed souls of fallen heroes. Thirteen dignitaries, including the State’s Chief Judge, Justice Kashim Zannah, laid wreaths at the Ramat Square in honour of the fallen heroes. “With these widows’ mites, we can reach their families in recognition of their breadwinners’ selfless contribution to the nation,” he said. He noted that the annual remembrance day, will remind the people that the labour of past heroes are not in vain. “This could also reawaken the spirit of patriotism, selfless services and unity,” he said. According to him, the military has made sacrifices to ensure peace in the state and Northeast region. He pledged to do more in cushioning the hardships of wives of fallen heroes and the legion. While citing ex-servicemen, he said: “Government is aware of the predicaments of the retired soldiers. “We’ll do anything possible within our limited resources to assist members of the Nigeria Legion,” he said.
