Army kills 40 terrorists, loses soldier in Yobe

Troops of 27 Task Force Battalion of Operation Tura Takaibango (OTTB) have killed 28 Boko Haram terrorists in an ambush of Gujba community in Yobe.

A dozen insurgents, were also neutralized at the weekend in Geidam, when they attempted to overrun the border community with petrol bombs.

While announcing neutralization on Sunday at the Special Army Super Camp, Ngamdu,Borno state; Acting Director Defense Media Operations, Brig-Gen. Bernard Onyeuko disclosed: “In the aftermath of decisive encounter, 28 terrorists were killed, while few others are believed to have escaped with gunshot wounds.”

“The troops tactically outmaneuvered the criminals and engaged them with superior fire power,” adding that the encircled ambush of terrorists resulted into high casualties.”

He explained that the successful protection of Gujba last Saturday, was led by the Commander of Sector 2 Headquarters, Special Training School, Buni/Yadi in Yobe state.

The troops also destroyed and gun truck with its fighters on board, including the capture of another gun truck.       

He said other arms and ammunition, captured in the ambush, included two anti-aircraft guns, 13 AK-47 rifles, four extra magazines and a vulcanizing machine.

“Our successes in the ambush, is an indication of the end of terrorists’ activities in the Northeast,” he said.

He therefore lauded the troops for flushing out remnants of insurgents from the Sambisa Forest hideouts.

He said the troops are encouraged not to relent, but build on the recorded successes of counter-terrorism operations in the forest and Lake Chad region.

He also assured the people of the northeast of Army’s renewed vigour and determination to crash remnants of terrorists.
