Date:

Troops of 233, 151 and 202 Battalions of Operation Tura Taikaibango have killed eight terrorists in the Chindila/Mayankari axis of Borno and Yobe. The soldiers also captured six AK-47 rifles and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) making materials at Mayankari village. Acting Director, Defense Media Operation, Brig-Gen. Bernard Onyeuko disclosed this Tuesday while briefing journalists on military operations at Special Army Super Camp 1, Ngamdu, Borno state. According to him, the terrorists were neutralized at the Chindila and Mayankari hideouts of Sambisa Forest. On how they were killed, he said: “Our troops engaged the terrorists with fierce volume of fire and neutralized five of them in the process,” noting that some of them escaped with gunshot wounds with traces of blood along the forest routes. He said the troops are in pursuit of fleeing terrorists with the domination of the army’s general areas of responsibilities. In another development, he said on January 25, 2021 troops of Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in a swift and aggressive response engaged the terrorists with heavy gunfire. This; according to him, led to the killing of three terrorists, while others escaped with gunshot wounds. On captured arms, he said: “Items recovered include three AK-47 rifles, a Solar panel and an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) making equipment. He explained that after the capture, terrorists’ hideous were also destroyed in search of the fleeing insurgents. He claimed that it’s an indication of troops’ capitulation and end of all criminal elements within the northeast. Onyeuko also encouraged the soldiers to continue on the path of successes recorded this year. He therefore assured the people that the Army will smoke out remnants of terrorists in the forest and Lake Chad region. End.
