Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state, has cut short visits to Abuja and Katsina over the weekend attacks and killings in six communities of the state. According to him, the terrorists killed five people with the torching of several houses, police station and Churches in Shaffa, Yemirshika; Tashan Alede (port of pigs). Sabon/Gari; Debro and Azare communities He said thousands of bags of farm produce recently harvested by farmers; were also looted by the terrorists. “Several shops and markets stalls were looted, before torching them,” he said. While addressing Yamirshika and Shaffa residents Sunday, he said: “We departed Abuja to Maiduguri on Sunday morning. “We are here to show our sympathy and to stand with all of you in Hauwul over the sad incident that occurred last night.” “I have been fully briefed and seen things for myself. By God’s willing, we’re to strengthen security here and other affected communities.” Continuing; he stated that; “We’ll immediately provide you with basic needs of life; based on my interactions with security stakeholders and community leaders,” pledging that all the shops, police station and other infrastructural facilities are also to be rebuilt before the rains sets in. He noted that he feels bad going to commiserate after attacks; because the protection of people’s lives and property is government’s topmost priority. “As enshrined in section 14, 2b of the 1999 constitution. Security of lives and property remain the cardinal objective of any government,” he said; noting that as well as doing everything within his powers to provide security and citizens’ welfare. “We shall remain resilient and focused in our search for peace in Borno,” he said. He explained that his cut short of visits Zulum; were to strengthen what he described as; “community resilience with support to local volunteers supporting the security agencies to restore peace. He therefore pledged six patrol vehicles to the Civilian JTF, vigilantes and hunters; including the distribution of relief materials to the affected residents. His deputy, Umar Kadafur and Sen. Mohammed Ndume, representing Borno south senatorial district and commissioners of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (RRR) and Agriculture, Mustapha Gubio and Bukar Talba were on the communities’ assessment of destroyed property.
