Sultan Tasks FG, Governors On Insecurity To Lives, Property

Date:

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad II; has tasked the Federal Government and Governors on the insecurity to lives and property. According to him; the 36 Governors should rise up to tackle the ongoing terrorism and banditry that claimed many lives and property in the country. The monarch gave the task yesterday in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, when he led a delegation of the National Council of Traditional Rulers (NCTRs) to sympathize with Governor Babagana Zulum over the recent slaying of 70 Zabarmari farmers. “This is the first time members of NCTR are visiting a state, like Borno, to discuss issues on national security,” he said, describing the killings of innocent people as; “unacceptable with grief.” The therefore urged the military and other security agencies for a more decisive action to end the menaces to lives and property. Continued; the monarch added: “We decided to come together as a council of traditional rulers to make this statement to all and sundry. “This message is not only to Governor Zulum, but all other 35 governors to please rise up to the occasion. “You should see how we can come together and fight this menace of shedding innocent people’s blood on a daily basis.” On how to end Boko Haram insurgency, he said: “For the insurgents to be defeated for peace, the military should occupy the Lake Chad region, Sambisa Forest and the Mandara Hills in Gwoza council,” noting that the complete rout of terrorists from their enclaves could guarantee the restoration of peace in the north. In complementing the military’s rout of insurgents, he urged the people not to relent in prayers for sustainable peace to reign in both the insurgency affected sub-region and nation. While responding to securing people’s lives and property, Zulum said: “there is the need to accord our traditional rulers special position in the nation’s constitution.” He said the major challenge confronting the state is providing means of livelihood to 1.5 million displaced persons. He therefore called on the federal government to deploy more security personnel to enable farmers cultivate their farmlands. Other monarchs that accompanied the Sultan on condolence visit, include the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemaka Alfred Ugochukwu, Oba Adekunle Adebayo, Ore of Otin. The Emirs of Hadejia and Fika; Dr. Adamu Abubakar Maje and Mohammed Abale Ibn Mohammed Idrissa, including Amanyanabo of Opobo Kingdom, King Dr. Dandasen Douglas Jaja were among other monarchs that condoled Zulum.
