Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state, has directed the State’s Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to provide immediate relief materials to victims of the Potiskum Central Market fire outbreak. According to him, last Monday’s inferno destroyed 51 shops, including several firewood sheds north of the market. While responding to Governor’s directives Tuesday in Damaturu, the state capital, SEMA’s Chairman, Mohammed Goje disclosed that; “Our assessment of damages to the fire market disaster, indicated that over four dozen shops and fire wood sheds were destroyed.” He said the succors for the inferno, are for short term to cushion the hardships of affected traders and firewood vendors. He added that traditional medicine sellers, which comprise 80 per cent of fire victims are also to be assisted with startup packs. “The takeoff assistance from the State Government, could restore their lost means of livelihoods,” he said. “They also lost all their means of livelihoods, and they have no other source of income to fend and feed their family members.” Responding, Chairman of the Potiskum Marketers Association (POMA), Nasiru Mato thanked the agency for the relief materials and to rebuild the razed market.
